Amy Winehouse, the 24 year old British female pop singer, could not ask for more at the 50th annual Grammys awards ceremony. Miss Amy Winehouse almost did a clean sweep of the awards at the Grammys 2008. Ms. Winehouse won five Grammy awards which equals Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Beyonce for the most number of awards in a year by a female artist. Ms. Winehouse won the record of the year and song of the year for her popular song “Rehab”. Rehab also fetched her female pop vocal solo performance award. She also won the pop vocal album for “Back to Black”. She was also awarded the best new artist taking her tally to five. Herbie Hancock walked away with the coveted album of the year award for “River: The Joni Letters” which surprised many at the ceremony and prevented Amy Winehouse from setting a record for a complete sweep of the top four Grammy awards.
The awards came as a confidence booster for the 24 year old Brit especially after what she has been through in the past few weeks. She was caught on camera smoking cocaine three weeks ago. She also spent time in a London rehab clinic.
Sadly, she was not able to collect the awards personally because of the problems in her U.S work visa. However, she performed her popular track “Rehab” and “You know i’m no good” from a London studio.
